The client had employed a developer directly to build an API integration between two platforms. It worked, after a fashion, but it had been built in an over-complex way and the developer could not offer continued support on it.
That left the client with a critical piece of infrastructure nobody could safely touch. We reviewed it and made the call to rebuild.

We built a new version of the integration, designed from the outset so that we, as external developers, could keep supporting and evolving it as requirements changed.
By updating the format in which data moved between the two platforms, with our software sitting in between, we got the new API in place and cut their permissions count from 700,000 to something manageable.
