GAS Textiles
In build
GAS Textiles make, brand and repair protective textiles for the photography, studio and film industries, out of a unit in Tottenham. Everything is designed, prototyped and made on site, and the minimum order is one. The existing site was plain and had stopped doing any selling.

The brief
The commercial goal was new clients and search was the route to them. That is not a thing you bolt on at the end, so it decided the architecture instead. Server rendered rather than a single page app, complete structured data, existing URLs preserved and anything that moved redirected properly.
It shaped the content too. Case studies, news and articles sit in one combined index rather than three separate sections, so authority accumulates on a single URL instead of splitting three ways. It also leaves the client one thing to keep fed rather than three, which is the difference between a section that grows and a section that dies.

The work
Cream, black, and a red used exactly once per page. Everything else is an opacity of those two. One font weight across the entire site, no corner radius except on two circular buttons, no shadows anywhere. The restraint is the design, which means the discipline is the thing most easily lost in six months.
The transformation from the old site is typographic and structural rather than chromatic. Same palette, editorial layout, sections running full bleed, type set in fluid clamps with the measure capped in characters. The nav overlay inverts the palette rather than rearranging the furniture, so the wordmark and button land exactly where they already were.

The detail
Kit arrives with almost no protection and what protection exists wears out fast. The industry answer is to replace. Theirs is to repair, reinforce, and make from scratch where nothing suitable exists. That is a sustainability position that happens to be the actual business model rather than a value statement on a wall.
Two details tell you who you are dealing with. Every repair starts with a free viability assessment, and sometimes the honest answer is that it is not worth doing. And repaired silks are diffusion matched in house, so a patched scrim does not announce itself on camera. Both went straight into the copy, because that is what somebody is actually buying.

The problem was everybody else, and the site had stopped helping with that at all.
