Girls on Track & Race for Diversity

Two programmes.
One framework.

Girls on Track and Race for Diversity both exist to widen who ends up in motorsport. They had to look like separate things, because they are. We built them together anyway, and that is the reason the budget worked.

The brief

Two audiences.
Two arguments.

Girls on Track is a joint initiative between the FIA and Motorsport UK, working to get women and girls seeing a place for themselves in the industry. Race for Diversity is a Motorsport UK programme approaching the same problem through STEM, with Mission 44 as Official Partner.

Both carry a point that gets missed constantly. This is not only about who drives. It is mechanics, engineers, data, communications, logistics and everything else the sport runs on. Each site had to make that obvious in seconds, to people who had never considered any of it as a career.

The work

One base.
Two directions.

The two sites sit on the same underlying framework, built once and then pulled apart visually. Their own typography, their own palette, their own photography, their own way of speaking.

Side by side the structure rhymes, which is fine. On its own each one reads as its own programme, which is what it has to do when it is in front of a school group, a partner or a potential recruit who has never heard of the other one.

The detail

Funded work
gets looked at.

Both programmes are partner-supported, and that changes the conversation about budget. Money spent on a website is money not spent on activity, and somebody will quite reasonably ask about it.

Building the two at once is what made the numbers work. One framework costed once, then two rounds of design on top, rather than two builds starting from nothing. Case studies, news, webinars and partner listings all run through the same structures underneath.
